Hi, friends! I want to talk to you about, " Praying the Armor of God Every Day". Are you praying the Armor of God every day? Chances are, you have already heard about this powerful and important set of armor that Paul describes in Ephesians chapter 6. The breastplate of righteousness, the helmet of salvation, the shield of faith—these are terms you might already know. But how much have you looked into them? It turns out that, upon close examination of the function of each piece of armor and the attribute Paul assigns to it, there are some incredible lessons to be learned. Let us check them out. Many of us leave home in the morning forgetting that we are in a spiritual battle. It is no wonder we can become overwhelmed or overcome by the trials and temptations we face. When you understand the idea of putting on the armor of God, it changes how you start your day; it strengthens your resolve to focus on and serve Jesus whole-heartedly no matter what comes your way. Paul tells us to take up the whole armor of God. But what is this armor, and how do we put it on? Is it still relevant for Christians today? Paul, an apostle of God's first-century Church, has a story for us today: Accused of sedition, beaten, arrested, almost assassinated, shipwrecked, attacked by a snake, and placed under house arrest: Most would call this list an unfortunate run of bad luck. Paul would recognize it as just part of his job description. Imprisoned in Rome for two years under the watchful eyes of Roman soldiers, Paul was able to write four epistles (Ephesians, Philippians, Colossians and Philemon) and continue preaching "the kingdom of God and teaching the things which concern the Lord Jesus Christ" to all those who came to hear him (Acts 28:30-31). At some point, a God-inspired analogy began to form in Paul's mind. Just as the Roman soldiers required physical armor to fight their wars, we Christians require spiritual armor to successfully fight ours. As the pieces fell into place, Paul saw that each piece of Roman armor had a powerful correlation with our own spiritual defenses. It is this analogy that the church in Ephesus received, and which God has preserved for two thousand years for our benefit. What happens when the enemy attacks? When the enemy attacks specifically, when he sends his best to attack you, this is the evil day. And in those days, you have to be ready and able to crouch down behind your shield of faith and rest there, wait there, while the flaming arrows are falling all around you. You wait. Just wait, all right? You need to understand that you do not stand up and say, “I’m so tough!” and then all the arrows strike you. You just rest. You just hunker down, put the shield of faith up, and wait. You rest in God while the enemy is attacking. Just get into the presence of God, get into the throne room, put the shield up, and wait for the attack to be over. Faith is so critical for victory in the spiritual battle. Because so often, we cannot see the victory that we have positionally in Christ, and we cannot feel the victory in our natural sense. But it is not emotional. It is volition. Volition means your will; it is your choice. In fact, so often, what we see and what we feel seems like the opposite of victory. Remember, if you could see it, it would not take any faith. If you could feel it, it would not take any faith. What we see and what we feel seems so often to be the opposite of victory in Christ. But, if we hold up a strong shield of faith, we will know that we have our victory in Christ – regardless of what we can see, regardless of what we can feel – and nothing the enemy can throw at us can change that. That is really the issue is not it – to be standing firm (remaining faithful) at the end of the battle? You will be standing firm because you just came close to the Lord, put the shield of faith up, waited for him to be done, and then you stood back up and said, “Lord, you were with me the whole time. You protected me the whole time. That was a sweet time while I was under the shadow of your wing (like Psalm 91 says.) I was just being protected there. And nothing can touch me there. And I thank you for that.” Charles Spurgeon – on spiritual warfare – says: When the Archenemy finds a weak place in the walls of our castles, he takes care where to plant his battering ram and begin his siege. You may conceal your [weakness], even from your dearest friend, but you will not conceal it from your worst Enemy. He has lynx eyes and detects in a moment the weak point in your armor. Next, faith is not about feeling; faith is about action. Faith is about taking action that is often contrary to feeling. Faith acts on God’s truth when feeling says do not act. Faith moves ahead on God’s truth when feeling says to run away. Faith is about what you do, not what you think. Faith is acting on God’s truth. So, seek God, to grow, strengthen and refine your faith because by holding up that shield of faith, your victory will come!! What Do We Need Armor for Anyway?"We are hard pressed on every side, yet not crushed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed" (2 Corinthians 4:8-9). How is it that, as Christians, we are expected to withstand incredible pressures and not be defeated? How can we stand up against everything the world has to throw at us and still expect to emerge victorious? The answer lies not in ourselves, but in a divine and unbeatable defense: the armor of God. What is the Meaning of the Armor of God?The armor of God is a tool that believers must use in our spiritual battles, which is presented by the Apostle Paul in Ephesians 6:10-20 and is necessary to win the war in which we live, a spiritual war. The expression “armor of God” translates to a Greek word that refers to the complete equipment of an infantryman. Moreover, the word for armor in the text is the Greek panoply, which comes from bread, meaning “all,” and hopla, meaning “weapons.” That is why the apostle Paul stresses that believers must take “the whole armor of God.” This spiritual armor is made up of different elements, but it is also a perfect unit. This means that in biblical teaching it makes no sense to carry only one or the other spiritual weapon and despise the others. Either one dresses in the full armor of God or is completely vulnerable to Satan’s attacks. The Importance of Prayer and Praying the Armor of GodIt is important for us to pray and ‘put on’ the full armor of God everyday so we can take our stand against the enemy, and prayer is one of the most important aspects of our lives as followers of Jesus, and it should not be taken lightly. Prayer is not something we should only do at church or during Bible study. It’s something we can do every single day. Like any relationship, if you don’t spend time with that person the relationship will suffer. Prayer is a way for us to spend time with God. It is a way to connect with Him and align our hearts with His. God calls us to pray at all times (Ephesians 6:18). And prayer is the over-arching key to winning the spiritual battle. But this prayer is active. We are not simply to “pray” the armor but to “put on the whole armor of God.” Then get in the trenches and join God in the fight. Prayer is important because it helps us to stay close to God. When we pray, we are opening up our hearts to Him and He is able to work in us and through us. Prayer also helps us to grow in our relationship with God. The more we talk and spend time with someone the more we get to know them. The same thing happens when we spend time in prayer connecting with God. The more time we spend talking to Him, the closer we will become! The Bible says in James 4:8, “Draw near to God and He will draw near to you” (NKJV). When we pray, we are inviting God into our lives and asking for His guidance. And if you’re anything like me, I NEED His guidance every day! Always pray in the Spirit, with petitions and supplications. Stay alert and persevere in prayer for all the saints. (Ephesians 6:18) The Christian soldier prepares for battle, strengthens himself, and receives his orders through prayer. Communication with God, our Commander, must be constant to strengthen us and receive his orders with the strategy we must follow. Not only should we pray for our struggles, challenges, or difficulties, but we should support our brothers and sisters in prayer. If we see a sibling struggling with sin or doubt, or if they are going through suffering or persecution, we should support them with our prayers and encourage them. Do you want to win in this spiritual war? Dress each day in the armor of God, spend time in prayer before him, study his word, and be alert to attacks from the enemy. The armor of God is an amazing metaphor for action we need to take in our spiritual lives. Paul sets the scene for us: We are fighting a war, and the stakes are higher than they have ever been in human history. Our enemy? Not flesh and blood, no human foe—we fight against a much more fearsome opponent whose forces are described in Ephesians 6:12. Our adversary, Satan the devil, and his host of demons have a single, driving purpose: Obliterate the children of God. Faced with the cares of this world, we can easily forget about the severity of this battle. But make no mistake: Our spiritual lives and future in God's Kingdom are on the line. If we lose this war, we will lose everything. What can we do in the face of such overwhelming odds? Is there any hope? Paul has the answer. In Ephesians 6:13, he gives the call to arms. By putting on all of God's armor, we can be assured of withstanding our enemy's onslaughts. Are There Any Other References to the Armor in the Bible?Isaiah 59:17 Yes! Though the passages may not explicitly call it the armor of God, there are sections of the Bible that further elaborate on the topic—even in the Old Testament! Isaiah 59:17 refers to two familiar pieces of armor—the helmet and the breastplate—and introduces two other pieces—the clothes of vengeance and cloak of zeal. Romans 13:11-14 Paul admonishes the Romans to put on both the "armor of light" and "the Lord Jesus Christ." This passage reveals both that wearing the armor of God is synonymous with having the character of God and that this armor cannot be worn if we are still wearing the "works of darkness"—a lifestyle of sin that separates us from God (Isaiah 59:1-2). 2 Corinthians 6:7 2 Corinthians 10:3-6 In these passages Paul calls it the armor of righteousness and reveals its purpose. We put on the armor and strength of God to effectively wage war against our enemy, the devil. Without it, we are helpless—but with it, we are soldiers of the living God, and "more than conquerors through Him who loved us" (Romans 8:37). The Armor of God Prayer for ProtectionThis prayer is a way to do just that. It will help you to be strong in the face of temptation and to overcome the enemy’s schemes. So why not set aside some time to pray this prayer today? It could make all the difference in your fight against deception. Here is the prayer below:: To Put On The Armor of GodDaily Prayer for putting on the armor of GodIn the name of Jesus, I put on the whole armor of God, that I may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For I wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, powers, the rulers of the darkness of this world, and spiritual wickedness in high places. Therefore, I take unto myself the whole armor of God that I may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. I stand, therefore, having my loins girt about with truth. Your Word, Lord, which is truth, contains all the weapons of my warfare, which are not carnal, but mighty through You to the pulling down of strongholds. I have on the breastplate of integrity and of moral rectitude and right standing with You, which is faith and love. My feet are shod with the preparation of the Gospel of peace. In Christ Jesus I have peace and pursue peace with all men. I am a minister of reconciliation, proclaiming the good news of the Gospel. I take the shield of faith, upon which I can quench all the flaming missiles of the wicked [one]; the helmet of salvation (holding the thoughts, feelings, and purpose of Your heart, Lord); and the sword of the Spirit, which is Your Word. In the face of all trials, tests, temptations, and tribulation, I cut to pieces the snare of the enemy by speaking Your Word. Greater is He Who is in me than he who is in the world. Thank You, Father, for the armor. I will pray at all times (on every occasion, in every season) in the Spirit, with all [manner of] prayer and entreaty. To that end I will keep alert and watch with strong purpose and perseverance, interceding in behalf of all the saints. My power and ability and sufficiency are from You Who qualified me as a minister and a dispenser of a new covenant [of salvation through Christ]. Amen. Scripture References:
